Environmental Listening

An introduction to the sounds of Warland Reservoir.

‘The song of a river ordinarily means the tune that waters play on rock, root, and rapid.’ – Aldo Leopold

This work responds to the natural soundscape of Warland Reservoir, its silence and its complexity. It looks at the value of Environmental Listening (Deep Listening) as moorland monitoring, and its role in ecological preservation. Considering nature as tone and texture and space. Listening for movement and distance. Exploring the listeners position in their environment.

This work is intended to encourage the listener to engage closely with their acoustic environment. Reflect on the soundscape of Warland Reservoir and give consideration to their own.
